1999, from my introduction to 1999, Daily Report
Yet another approach was what I like to call, somewhat provocatively, my dumb photos. Meaning those that don’t express any conscious intention on my part (and even less on the part of the people I photograph), but seem to contain an involuntary message, which can be difficult to put into words, but which is no less significant for all that. Like Two policemen in the Bois de Boulogne, on April 4th, At Charles de Gaulle Airport, on May 5th, Cows in the twilight, on May 28th, Store under renovation, on July 6th, Hotel hall in Kiel, on July 18th, Telephone booth on Corfu seaside, on October 17th.
